Commencement Time Changes/Reception Canceled Due To Weather
Due to the threat of severe weather Saturday afternoon, May 9, Oklahoma State University has changed the times of its three undergraduate commencement ceremonies. In addition, all college receptions have been canceled because of the change.
Botany Professor Awarded NSF Grant to Study Milkweed Evolution
The National Science Foundation awarded Dr. Mark Fishbein, associate professor of Plant Biology, Ecology, and Evolution at Oklahoma State University and director of the University Herbarium, a three-year grant totaling $642,000 to study the evolution of milkweed, a species crucial to the rapidly declining monarch butterfly population, using genome sequences. In previous research, Fishbein has investigated the evolution of milkweed defenses in response to monarch feeding. However, the evolutionary relationships among milkweed species are still not well understood.
CAS student first from OSU accepted for women's leadership program
Mauree Turner is the first student from Oklahoma State University to be selected to participate in the NEW Leadership conference, set for early May at the University of Oklahoma. NEW Leadership is a national bi-partisan program with a mission to educate, inspire and empower college women to become political leaders since they are currently underrepresented in politics, political service and other leadership roles.

U.S. Ambassador Joseph Westphal will receive an Honorary Doctor of Laws (LL.D) Degree on Saturday, May 9, at 9:30 a.m., prior to speaking at the first of three undergraduate commencement ceremonies set for Gallagher-Iba Arena at Oklahoma State University.

OSU Communications Ad Team Places Second in District Competition
A team of Oklahoma State University undergraduates took second place and one member earned a top individual award during the district match of the American Advertising Federation’s National Student Advertising Competition, which included 18 universities from Oklahoma and Texas. The contest, held last week in Dallas, gives students the opportunity to research, develop, execute and present an advertising campaign for a national client.
