About
The multimedia journalism major focuses on training you to become an effective storyteller. You will receive hands-on experience with the tools and techniques of photography and cinema, audio production, and video production, while learning to be a critical thinker and an excellent writer. You create multimedia projects using all of the multimedia elements required of today’s journalists. As a multimedia major, you will not only gain a foundation in reporting and writing, but also learn how to combine words with images, video and sound to tell journalistic stories creating an experiential, interactive environment for readers.
Multimedia Journalism allows you to gain hands-on experience by writing for the O’Colly newspaper, creating, producing and editing OStateTV or Pete’s Corner, and participating in one of the 50+ student media radio shows and podcasts.
Courses to expect for this major include Fundamentals of Audio and Video Production, Internet Communication, and Extreme Digital Persuasion.
Career Options
Upon graduation from the School of Media and Strategic Communications are able to meet the diverse communications needs of any media outlet. You are able to create and maintain a professional portfolio that is turned in as part of the senior capstone course. The professional portfolio is a critical tool for you to showcase your media abilities to future employers. SMSC graduates enjoy successful careers in a variety of fields.
