Dr. Jack C. Pashin, professor and Devon Energy Chair of Basin Research in the Boone Pickens School of Geology at Oklahoma State University, received the Geological Society of America’s highest honor at a ceremony in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on Tuesday, Oct. 21.  Pashin was presented with the Gilbert H. Cady Award, which recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to the interdisciplinary field of coal geology. 

Oklahoma State University President Burns Hargis announced today the university will soon build a nearly $60 million Performing Arts Center and home for the Department of Music. More than $16 million in gifts and commitments have been received to date for the project.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) has awarded Dr. Larry L. Mullins, with Oklahoma State University, a $3 million grant to conduct research that could offer parents more help soon after they learn their child has cancer.

Two doctoral students at Oklahoma State University are the recipients of Love of Learning awards worth $500 each from the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi—the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

A representative of the French Consulate will present retired OSU professors, Ron du Bois and J.Q. Lynd, the French Legion of Honor Medal for their military service during World War II. The ceremony will take place Saturday, Oct. 18, at 11:00 a.m. in the Gardiner Art Gallery at Oklahoma State University.

Fifteen Oklahoma State University undergraduate students will receive $8,000 scholarships and the opportunity to conduct supervised research in a university lab as 2014-15 Niblack Research Scholars. The annual program is funded by OSU alumnus John Niblack, who wants to give the students an early chance to do real scientific research that goes beyond book study or the routine lab experience. 

Oklahoma State University Theatre’s first main stage production of the season, Sarah Ruhl’s lyrical and haunting “Eurydice,” opens 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts.

Oklahoma State University doctoral candidate Eric Singleton was awarded a $150,000 grant for a project that’s expected to provide greater access into the culture of the Native American mound builders who flourished in the U.S. from 800 to 1600 A.D. 

Dr. Elizabeth Grubgeld, professor of English at Oklahoma State University, is one of only eight international scholars who will speak on Irish novelist and autobiographer George Moore at the George Moore Symposium scheduled for Oct. 3-5 at the Princess Grace Irish Library in Monaco.
