Dr. Elizabeth Grubgeld, professor of English at Oklahoma State University, is one of only eight international scholars who will speak on Irish novelist and autobiographer George Moore at the George Moore Symposium scheduled for Oct. 3-5 at the Princess Grace Irish Library in Monaco.

“Hosted by one of the world’s premier institutes for research on Irish culture, the seminar represents a recognition of Moore’s long career as a remarkably original and often controversial writer,” Grubgeld said. “It provides an opportunity to share ideas with the leading scholars in the field and to later share both the ideas and the energy of such exchanges with my students here at OSU.”

Grubgeld’s presentation is titled “Jean-Jacques’s Problem Child: George Moore and the Confessional Mode.” She will be joined at the symposium by seven scholars from Ireland, Wales, England, Spain, and France for presentations, round-table discussions, and conversations.

Grubgeld has published several pieces on Moore, including “Anglo-Irish Autobiography: Class, Gender, and the Forms of Narrative,” which won the 1995 American Conference for Irish Studies prize for best book in Irish literature. She has been a regular speaker at the International George Moore Conference, held every two years in Europe, but notes this symposium “is a recognition that goes far beyond that.”

In addition to teaching several upper division and graduate courses at OSU, Grubgeld is the director of graduate studies for the English department.
