The Oklahoma Humanities Council presented grants to four Oklahoma State University instructors. Dr. Cristina Gonzalez, Dr. Seth Perlow, Dr. Tonia Sharlach, and Dr. Shaoqian Zhang each received a $500 scholar research grant.
Dr. Bill Bryans, Chair of the Oklahoma Humanities Council’s Board of Trustees and OSU history professor, was on hand to present the checks and congratulate the four recipients. Dr. Bret Danilowicz, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, represented the college.
Gonzalez (History) earned her grant for the topic Women on the Cross: Imitatio Christi and Female Piety in the Early Modern Spanish World, 1500-1850.
Perlow (English) earned his grant for the topic Opening the Field: Visual Textures of Mid-Century American Poetry.
Sharlach (Art) earned her grant for the topic Death and Taxes in Early Mesopotamia.
Zhang (Art) earned her grant for the topic Re-inventing China: Landscape Paintings in Contemporary China.
The Oklahoma Humanities Council offers research grant awards of $500 each to scholars in Oklahoma, whether independent or affiliated with an institution. These awards are offered as a modest effort to encourage and increase original humanities research by Oklahoma scholars.
