The Oklahoma State University Seretean Trombone Quartet won first place at the finals of the 2014 Courtois Trombone Quartet Competition at the Fort Worth Trombone Summit on April 5. 

The quartet, which took home the competition’s $1,200 first prize, included Bryan Lucas, senior from Ponca City; Bruce Haiduk, junior from Broken Arrow; Amelia Rosenberger, sophomore from Aledo, Texas, and Eric Kalbfleisch, junior from Carrollton, Texas.  

“Our winning quartet played the entire program from memory, which wasn’t required, but something they did to make their performance even more special,” said Paul Compton, associate professor of trombone and quartet coach. “OSU was the only school with multiple quartets recognized in the competition with three of the six groups recognized. We had two of the three finalists and one of the three honorable mentions.”  

This was the third time OSU has won in the five years since the competition was established. Previous wins came in 2011 and 2012.
