Dr. Jay Winter, one of the most respected authorities on World War I, will present a lecture on the commemoration of the First World War, on Thurs., February 6 at 3:30 p.m. in Murray 035. A small reception will follow in the Murray Parlor.
The lecture, “Commemorating Catastrophe: the First World War 100 Years On,” is free and open to the public.
The Yale University Charles J. Stille Professor of History, Winter is a world-renowned expert on World War I and its impact on the 20th century. He is the author or co-author of a dozen books, including Sites of Memory, Sites of Mourning: The Great War in European Cultural History. He was also the co-producer, co-writer, and chief historian for the award-winning PBS series “The Great War and the Shaping of the 20th Century.”
He is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society and received an honorary doctorate from the University of Graz in 2010. He has presented named lectures at Dartmouth College, Union University, Indiana University, and the Leo Baeck Institute in New York.
