Budding musicians in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Music at Oklahoma State University were eager to show their brass as OSU took first place in the Solo Undergraduate Division, marking the fifth time in four years OSU took first at the National Trumpet Competition, held March 25 – 25 on the campus of Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colo.
Senior Natalie Upton, of Prosper, Texas, took first place. Sophomore Noah Mennenga, of Cottage Grove, Wis., took third.
An OSU alum, Nick Doutrich, also finished third in the Large Ensemble Division with Southern Methodist University.
With Upton’s win, OSU becomes the only university to win every collegiate category, doing so within a three-year span. OSU competes in the Undergraduate Solo, Graduate Solo, Small Ensemble, and Large Ensemble divisions.
