Mitchell Meyer wowed the judges to capture first place in the 2017 College of Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, held March 30 inside the OSU Physical Science building, and hosted by the CAS Student Council.
Meyer, of Wichita, Kan., won a $1,250 scholarship for his presentation, “Investigating the Energy of Musical Chords.”
The top five finishers were all awarded scholarships beginning at $500. Other winners include:
- 2nd Place: Katherine Dzurilla (Owasso, Okla.)
- 3rd Place: KatyAnn Dudley (Sperry, Okla.)
- 4th Place: Daniel McLeod (Tulsa, Okla.)
- 5th Place: Zachary Helms (McKinney, Texas)
Begun by the University of Queensland (Australia), 3MT contests challenges students to present a thesis with three minutes to speak and a single, static visual slide, to a panel of judges with no background in the student’s area of study. While traditionally open only to graduate students, the College of Arts and Sciences’ Student Council hosted their first 3MT event for undergrads in 2015.
