A new book covering the rich history and impact of figures in the horror film genre co-authored by an OSU professor is now available.
“International Horror Film Directors: Global Fear” by Dr. Danny Shipka, OSU Assistant Professor of Mass Communications, and Dr. Ralph Beliveau, an assistant professor of Mass Communications at the University of Oklahoma, explores how basic human fears are exploited by figures in the genre.
The book looks at how personalities such as Guillermo del Toro, Lars Von Trier, and David Cronenberg, along with lesser known talents, utilized deep-rooted fears that cross national and cultural boundaries to terrify and disturb people the world over.
An OSU alumnus, Shipka earned both a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism and a M.S. in International Studies in Stillwater, before earning a Ph.D. in mass communication at the University of Florida. This is Shipka’s second book, with the previous one, “Perverse Titillation: European Exploitation Films 1960-1980” releasing in 2011.
The book is available in paperback and retails for $42.50 on Amazon.com.
