Oklahoma State University saxophone students recently received national honors.
The OSU Saxophone Octet was invited to perform at the 2016 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago. The Midwest Clinic is an annual four-day music band and orchestra conference created to showcase music industry trends and music education through an array of clinics and exhibits for all age and experience levels. The conference is the country’s largest music conference of its kind. This year, the exhibit hall will be the largest in the history of the conference, including almost 400 companies and exhibitors. The 2015-2016 OSU Saxophone Octet includes Damian Cheek, Koln Wright, Charles Chadwell V, Aaron Singleton, Hayden Anderson, Eric Stults, Matthew Floeter and Terrance Hockless.
Caleb Shannon, a recent OSU graduate, won third place in the Music Teachers National Young Artist Competition April 4. According to MTNA, the organization, including nearly 22,000 members in 50 states, serves as a preeminent source for music teacher support, where members embody like-minded values and commitment to the students, colleagues and society as a whole, while reaping the rewards of collaboration, continuity and connection throughout the lifetime of their careers. Shannon will receive a $300 award at next year’s conference March 18-22, 2017, in Baltimore, Md.
