Remy Wins CAS Graduate 3MT® Competition

Physics doctoral candidate Kahli Remy took first place at the 2016 College of Arts and Sciences 3MT® Finals on Feb. 19 inside the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room of the OSU Library. 

Remy’s presentation “High Dose Radiation Effects in Tissue Equivalent Materials” led a field of 14 finalists from the College.  She will be joined by at least one other top finisher from the contest in next month’s university-wide competition.  Remy is advised by Dr. Stephen McKeever in OSU’s Department of Physics. Remy

Awards provided by the Dean’s Excellence Fund included $300 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place as well as a $300 People’s Choice Award. 

Microbiology & Molecular Genetics Master’s candidate Sway Pradhan took second place for her presentation “Fungi and Bacteria for Biofuels: Helps or Hurts?”  She is advised by Dr. Babu Fathepure.  She also captured the People’s Choice Award. 

Theatre Master’s candidate Ezekiel Eastman took third place for his presentation “Byzantine Theatre.”  He is advised by Dr. Andrew Kimbrough. 

Fifty-five CAS graduate students competed in the preliminary rounds over four different sessions. 

The contestants were allowed only one static slide and three minutes to present their research to an audience with no background in their respective areas of study.  The 3MT® competition was founded by the University of Queensland (Australia) and the OSU Graduate College will host its fourth annual competition this year.
