The Oklahoma State University Opera and Orchestra will present Carlisle Floyd’s “Susannah,” performed by OSU vocalists and instrumentalists with distinguished opera singer David Settle on Feb. 5-6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Seretean Center Concert Hall.

 

Conducted by Maestro Enrique Carreon-Robledo, and directed by B. Peter Westerhoff and Steve Sanders,  “Susannah” was adapted from the tale of Susanna and the elders, and focuses on an innocent 18-year old girl who is targeted as a sinner in a small mountain town in Tennessee.  Recently marking its 50th year on stage, Susannah is one of the most performed American operas. Its music is influenced by Appalachian folk melodies and includes traditional classical music and some hymns.

 

Settle will perform the principle role of Blitch. He has served as a collegiate voice instructor and performed with several orchestras, including Dallas, Shreveport, and Oklahoma.
