OSU Announces School of Visual and Performing Arts

Oklahoma State University announced the launch of a School of Visual and Performing Arts (SVPA) at a private reception on Sept. 24.  The SVPA will encompass the OSU Departments of Music, Theatre and Art, Art History and Graphic Design.

“Establishing the School of Visual and Performing Arts shows OSU’s latest commitment to the arts,” Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences Bret Danilowicz said.  “The three departments under the SVPA have individually built esteemed programs. I can only image what their combined efforts will produce.”

Brienen webRebecca Brienen, head of the art, art history and graphic design department, will serve as inaugural director.

The SVPA and its expansion will increase the synergy and reputation of allied arts at OSU, while allowing students, faculty and patrons of the arts to enjoy state-of-the-art facilities and resources.

“We’re really looking forward to collaboration between the three departments,” Brienen said.  “Creating the School of Visual and Performing Arts shows that we have amazing momentum for the Arts here at OSU.”
