The OSU School of Media and Strategic Communications recently announced additional awards drawn in by the school’s prestigious Student Media program.
Senior Nathan Ruiz, already honored as a finalist for the prestigious Hearst Award, was awarded second place in the inaugural Student Sports Journalism Contest, presented by the Associated Press Sports Editors. A panel of judges selected Ruiz’ portfolio of work as the second-best in the country amongst collegiate sports writers.
First place was awarded to Emily Giambalvo at the University of Georgia.
Ruiz also received first place in the Sports Features category in the Society of Features Journalism national contest.
Junior Stetson Payne took second in the Top Collegiate Feature Writer category, a category won last year by former OSU student Cody Stavenhagen, now the OU Sooners beat writer at the Tulsa World.
“Needless to say, APSE and SFJ are big fans of what we’re doing at OSU,” Barbara Allen, OSU Director of Student Media, said. “These kinds of national awards are validation that we truly are among the best journalism schools in the country.”
