Interdisciplinary Diversity Studies

Introduction

The interdisciplinary diversity programs at OSU include Africana Studies, American Indian Studies, American Studies, and Gender and Women's Studies. The programs work collaboratively to offer a range of specialization courses, sponsor speakers and events, and support faculty research on both the Stillwater and Tulsa campuses. See the tabs below for more information on each program.

Africana Studies

Africana Studies at OSU examines the culture, history, and politics of people of African descent, with a particular focus on the African American experience. The minor in Africana Studies will appeal to students who want to think critically about issues of power, equality, and justice, especially as they relate to global ideas of race and the historic achievements of African-descended people.

American Indian Studies

The goal of the AMIS minor is to encourage students to expand their cultural knowledge and to gain an appreciation for American Indian cultures of Oklahoma, the region, and the nation.

American Studies

American Studies at OSU examines the history, culture, and society of the United States from a multidisciplinary, multicultural, and transnational perspective. We investigate the diverse peoples and ideas that have shaped the nation using an eclectic array of tools.

Gender and Women’s Studies

Gender and Women’s Studies is an interdisciplinary academic program that offers a minor, supports faculty research and hosts campus events in a variety of gender issues. We offer diverse courses on the history of women, feminist and gender theories, men and masculinities, the cross-cultural intersections of race, class, nationality, and sexuality, and topics such as LGBTQ lives, gender and health, motherhood, and body image.
