Plant Biology develops your appreciation for the diversity, complexity and unity of life. Your studies provide the basis for the applied plant sciences that includes the development of pharmaceuticals, biofuels and improved crops. This major is well-suited for preparing you for pharmaceutical school. A Plant Biology major prepares you for the job market in government and industry, and for entry into graduate, medical, and other professional schools.

Career Options

Students interested in careers in plant science should have a strong interest in the biological sciences in general, as well as an aptitude for chemistry and mathematics. Plant Biology majors are competitive for all types of jobs as well as for acceptance into graduate and medical schools. A bachelor’s degree in plant biology leads to opportunities in federal and state agencies, research and development companies, research foundations and institutes, conservation organizations, natural history museums, public and private schools and college and universities. Become an OK-LSAMP Scholar! OK-LSAMP is a consortium of Oklahoma colleges and universities working together to develop programs aimed at increasing the number of students from under-represented populations who receive degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The OK-LSAMP scholarship program provides scholars with increased opportunities and connections, including undergraduate research experiences, graduate school preparation, international experiences, and internships/externships with companies in the STEM fields.
