About the Major

With an American Studies major, you gain a systematic understanding of the culture and society of the United States of America from a multidisciplinary perspective, while developing critical thinking and writing skills. Small, discussion-based classes allow you to learn multicultural diversity, to connect with your teachers, and tailor the curriculum to your goals and interests.

In addition to a solid foundation in American history, politics, culture and social relations, American Studies courses will help you hone your research and reasoning skills.

Courses to expect for this major include American History, American Literature, Fine Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, Theory and Method of American Studies, and Senior Seminar in American Studies.

Minor

The minor in American Studies is a program that explores American history, culture and society. A variety of courses are available for you to choose from including: Globalization and American Culture, American Popular Culture and Gender in America. This minor teaches you to think clearly, argue well, communicate ideas and respect diversity of opinion and experience.
