Caitlin Barnes works with faculty to identify and develop innovative methods and programs that support undergraduate students and learning, as well as professional development and community engagement. She specializes in instructional design and helps structure courses to maximize student participation and improve retention. Dr. Barnes holds a B.S. in Geology, an M.S. in Teaching, Learning, and Leadership in Secondary Science Education, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Science with a specialty in Hydrogeology, all from Oklahoma State University. She is currently teaching two online courses through Outreach, which are Environmental Geology and Planetary Geology.

Dr. Barnes has three children and her husband, who also received a degree from OSU, currently works at OSU as a horticulturist. Dr. Barnes started working at OSU in 2008. She spent a year with the Department of Languages and Literatures, 5 years with the NASA Education Projects, and 4 years with the OSUTeach program. Her research interests and publications lie within hydrogeology, science education, and online educational practices. In 2017, Dr. Barnes received the Graduate Research Excellence Award for her dissertation research regarding the hydrogeology of potentially induced seismic areas.
