About

Rigorous and stimulating in nature, the study of music at OSU provides an environment that both challenges you to reach your artistic potential and prepares you to function in various capacities within the professional world of music. Large enough to offer you rewarding performance opportunities, the department is also small enough to provide you with a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. You have the opportunity here to work one-on-one with faculty who are nationally and internationally renowned artists and music scholars and truly dedicated to and invested in the success of each individual student. The program also leads you toward a Oklahoma State Teacher's Certificate.

Courses to expect for this major include Music History, Music Theory, Large and Chamber Ensembles, Opera, Jazz Studies, and Marching Band Methods.

Students graduate from OSU prepared to be successful in a wide variety of musical careers that include performance, teaching, working in the music industry, and beyond. Our graduates have pursued successful careers in a variety of fields:

The Finish in Four plans are designed to assist you in an eight semester plan guiding you to graduate within four years. You may use this as a guide to plan your undergraduate education, but you should adjust it to fit your personal goals.

Minor

A Music minor is perfect for you if you have a passion for music. With courses such as Music Theory, Sight Singing, and Music History the Music minor also gives students the flexibility to focus on areas of interest.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available for prospective freshmen, transfer students, current students and continuing students through the University, College of Arts and Sciences, and respective Departments.

When you complete the OSU admission application, you are automatically considered for the University Level scholarships.

Students are eligible for College Level scholarships within the College of Arts and Sciences after completing 12 hours at OSU. Some exceptions may apply. See specific scholarships for criteria.

Some Departments offer Departmental Level scholarships for students whose major is housed within that specific department.
