29 Remembering Dr. Mohamed Gamal Abdelsalam Society of Africa in 2008. He also served as President of the Geological Society of Africa (2001– 2004), elevating its global presence. He had mentored 15 PhD and 17 MS students, served on committees for more than 30 additional graduate students, and mentored numerous undergraduates. As a mentor, Dr. Abdelsalam was unmatched. He directly advised 12 Ph.D. and 15 M.S. students, served on committees for over 30 others, and mentored many undergraduates. His students have gone on to successful careers in academia, industry, and government, a testament to his dedication to education. Beyond his academic achievements, Dr. Abdelsalam was known for his generosity, humor, and unwavering support for his family and colleagues. He passed away unexpectedly on July 23, 2024, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, at the age of 63. His legacy lives on through his groundbreaking research, the students he mentored, and the geoscientific community he helped shape. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. M.G.
