24 American Association of Petroleum Geologists Student Chapter at Oklahoma State University Faculty Advisor: Dr. Michael Grammer The Oklahoma State University American Association of Petroleum Geologists Student Chapter is dedicated to being a preprofessional organization, providing students with opportunities for leadership experience, education, and chances to interact with members of industry. At our core we promote and teach the science of geology through activities which include outreach projects in the community and educational trips to teach and enhance student’s geologic knowledge. This previous year has been a busy year for the chapter. Jordan Ray (President, AAPG student chapter) officiating over a meeting Last semester we initiated a mentoring program in which graduate students are paired with undergraduate students to mentor them in their fields of interest and to guide the undergraduate onto a pathway to successfully enroll in a graduate program. We also held a "Pizza and Profs" which was attended by OCGS members who held a Q&A session with our students about the oil industry and what is the OCGS. In addition to a phenomenal learning and networking opportunity, it was also a competition between OSU and OU to see which school would have the largest presence. In the end, we were able to win with 46 attendees to their 45. On February 17th 2016 we held a prospect exhibition by John Brett and Gregg McCain, in which they presented the process and methods used for two prospects they drilled. We had 105 attendees, 11 professionals and 94 students. At the conclusion of the presentation, students were able to discuss the prospects with industry professionals over dinner, courtesy of Conoco Phillips. The event closed with the revelation of the best prospect as and the raffling of two rock hammers which were given to us by Dr. Grammer. We also plan to host a couple more short courses and community outreach events prior to the end of the semester. Lastly, we are trying to put together a skeet shoot, more news on that as things develop further.
