COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES RISING STAR STORY CAS MARKETING | PHOTO PROVIDED A taken during her junior year at Oklahoma State University sent Emily Ramseyer Collins on a journey she’s still enjoying today. “The course taught the importance of a journalist’s role as a watchdog,” Collins said. “After some investigative tactics for an article I was writing uncovered wrongdoing, I was inspired to learn more about the legal system and seek a career that would allow me to help people.” After graduating in 2015 with a degree in multimedia journalism from the School of Media and Strategic Communications, Collins attended the University of Oklahoma College of Law and received her Juris Doctor in 2018. She is now an associate in the advising clients in estate and tax planning, guardianships, probate and trust administration. “OSU’s journalism classes prepared me well for law school because of the skills they helped me develop in interviewing, investigating, reading, researching, writing and analysis,” Collins said. “A journalism degree is an excellent foundation for law school. I use the skills I learned at OSU in my career every day.” While a student in the College of Arts and Sciences, Collins took part in a wide range of activities, from clubs and committees to a broadcast news internship to studying abroad in London. foundation that set me up for success in many aspects of my life — both personally and professionally,” Collins said. “Through OSU’s professors, faculty, in and out of the classroom, it instilled in me hard work, open-mindedness and passion that propelled me to be the best version of myself.” Collins’ resume includes interning for Judge W. Eugene Davis on the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and Chief Judge Gregory K. Frizzell of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma. Collins is an active member of the Junior League of Oklahoma City, and volunteers with RestoreOKC, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership and the OKC Chi Omega Alumnae. Collins married her husband, Taylor — a 2017 College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology graduate — in May 2023.
