OSU’s Air Force ROTC Det 670 sent its first all-female team to compete at the 2025 Bataan Memorial Death March. The five cadets trekked more than 26.2 miles carrying over 35 pounds each in the high desert of White Sands, New Mexico. In total, 31 members of Det 670 competed in the event — the most ever by the detachment. CDIS faculty Dr. Roha Kaipa, Kristi Carpenter and Caryl Hennen were awarded the prestigious 2025 Women for OSU Partnering to Impact Grant. Their project, “Autism Spectrum Disorder Summer Camp: Enhancing Communication Skills and Parent Support” was selected from a competitive pool of over 40 applicants. Fulfilling their commitment to community outreach programs, CAS faculty hosted several summer K-12 camps. These included Geology’s GEO-REx geoscience research experience for high schoolers and Computer Science’s Cyber Bridge for families and CyberArt Pioneers for 11- to 13-year-olds. Three podcasts from CAS faculty have been gaining popularity over the past year: “Odd Fellows” delves into transdisciplinary research at OSU with co-hosts Drs. Skye Cooley and Andrew Abernathy from the School of Media and Strategic Communications; “Good History” examines the past and how it impacts the present with Department of History’s Drs. Sarah Griswold and Brian Hosmer; and “Neurodiving” with Philosophy’s Dr. Joanna Lawson and Kansas State University’s Dr. Amelia Hicks explores philosophical questions raised by the experiences of neurodivergent people. Art History grad student Valentina Plata curated “Perspectivas desde el otro lado/Perspectives from the Other Side” at the Mexican consulate in Oklahoma City in the fall of 2024. It featured five Mexican American artists based in Oklahoma who are also members of OSU’s Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History. OSU COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES 37
