The Department of History and the Edmon Low Library hosted a first-of-its-kind monthly live book talk series through 2020-21 titled, “Why It Matters: Talks on the American Past.” Each of the five books was published in 2020 by an OSU history professor, four of whom were first-time authors. In the field of history, “books are the gold standard for scholarship,” said Dr. Sarah Griswold, history professor and the series’ organizer. “They take years to do, so we wanted to celebrate them.” Earlier this year, Department of Integrative Biology professor Dr. Elizabeth McCullagh helped relaunch the Gage database that she co-created in 2018, which addresses a lack of diversity on scientific panels. The site — gage.500womenscientists.org — is a resource for connecting underrepresented people in STEMM not only to each other, but also to journalists, conference organizers and others in need of expert opinion. The Guthrie Scottish Rite of Freemasonry recently renewed its partnership with OSU’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders by donating $283,574 to the OSU Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic . The partnership began in 2018 when the Guthrie Scottish Rite Foundation moved its speech and language clinic operations to Stillwater’s campus and gave an initial $182,411 to the department. On average, CAS faculty secure about 220 grants per year, totaling $13 million for research, outreach and teaching. $ 13 M CAS now has 146 majors and major options, including five degrees that are available completely online. The college recently added the online History and Sociology programs to the previously established options of Psychology, Computer Science and Multidisciplinary Studies. For a traditional degree, new majors are a BFA in acting, a BFA in musical theatre, a BA in American Sign Language and a BS in geophysics. 146 Because CAS houses the core subjects, our faculty and staff truly serve the entire OSU system. For example, we had 29,000 general education enrollments from 13,500 unique students. That represents two-thirds of the OSU undergraduate student body.
