Gill, a Stillwater resident, earned a bachelor’s degree in 1967, a master’s degree in 1973 and a doctorate in 1976, all in history. The Dallas resident earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1976. He was president and director of XTO Energy Inc. in Fort Worth, Texas, until its merger with ExxonMobil in June 2010.
